All inclusive holidays in Costa De La Luz is certainly known as the best-kept secret in Spain. Costa De La Luz located right at the south west point of Spain, just to the east and south of Portugal, the region includes the most southerly point of mainland Europe, and remains virtually undeveloped in tourism terms.
The region is typically flat, and largely covered with scented pine trees inland, giving way at the coast to some of the softest golden sand you’re likely to see anywhere. And most of the Costa De La Luz all inclusive resorts (though there aren’t that many!) are basically pretty fishing villages that have welcomed small numbers of visitors into their world.
Holidays in Costa De La Luz are unlikely to ever concede to mass tourism in the way that other Spanish areas enthusiastically developed themselves a few decades ago. So if you’re looking for a peaceful relaxing holiday among stunning surroundings without the crowds, then this might just be an ideal holiday destination for you.
Isla Canela
Isla Canela lies by a glorious 7km stretch of golden sands. The hotels here have been sympathetically developed in the local Andalucian style and, as this was until recently a small fishing village, life here is laid-back and relaxing. The new marina is the place to be for the low-key nightlife, with other entertainment options centred on the hotels.
Isla Christina
A typically charming Andalucian resort, Isla Christina is an ideal base for all inclusive Costa de la Luz holidays. There are several golf courses within easy reach, and Playa d’Santiago is the resort’s golden sandy beach. While not yet over-developed, the resort offers a range of restaurants and bars which are worth a visit.
Islantilla
A brand new purpose-built resort, Islantilla is ideally situated by a wide and very long sweeping stretch of golden sand that provides a seemingly never-ending beach to relax on. It’s a modern development, so there a good choice of shops, restaurants and bars to enjoy, though this is still a resort perfectly suited to holidaymakers looking for a relaxing holiday.
Beaches in Costa De La Luz
Beaches here have a more golden and finer type of sand than many of the more popular Costas. They’re also usually very wide and can run interrupted for miles and miles. Add to that the sand dunes and pine tree woodland that often back long stretches, and you can begin to understand why the beaches of Costa De La Luz holidays are considered to be the very best in Spain.
Bear in mind that you won’t find any of the overbearing tourism developments that some Costas are well known for. These are all beaches without any significant development, but have been largely preserved in all their natural unspoilt beauty.

Isla Canela A glorious wide stretch of south-facing golden sand that runs about 6km along the up-and-coming resort itself. Backed by sand dunes, if you stay near the hotels in Costa De La Luz , you’ll find plenty of sunbeds, sun umbrellas and places to eat and drink.
Isla Cristina Popular in summer, pick any spot on this superb 17km length of fine golden sand and enjoy the stunning scenery that stretches for as far as you can see. There are excellent beach facilities in places, and look out for the chiringuitos (beach bars) that open in the summer.
Islantilla Another long beach (about 15km) and although there are plenty of sunbeds close to the resort itself, there are many opportunities for finding a quiet bit of beach to fully relax on.
La Antilla The beach at this small resort is backed by a pretty palm-lined promenade providing welcome shade from hot sun. Again, the sands here are wide and stretch for miles.
El Rompido A pretty fishing village with a large sand bank that extends across a river estuary – perfect for getting away from it all with a picnic.
Punta Umbria A bustling seaside town with another stunning long stretch of golden sand towards the north of the Costa De La Luz, in the peak summer months there’s plenty of sun loungers, parasols and great beach facilities. Stick around after the sun goes down and you can enjoy the bustling restaurants and bars – this is a great little resort that knows how to party long into the night.
Matalascanas Beautiful golden sands and great facilities, Matalascanas is another gem of a beach resort on the Costa De La Luz. Plenty of chiringuitos (beach bars) are around, but only in the main summer months on the main strip. And if you’re actively looking for some peace and quiet, then it won’t take a long stroll before you’ll find a little piece of beachy heaven all to yourself.
Entertainment in Costa De La Luz
Isla Canela The beautiful beach is the main draw for visitors to this pretty resort, and though life is very laid-back here, there’s usually organised live entertainment in the big hotels during the evenings.
Islantilla A livelier beach than most on all inclusive holidays in Costa De La Luz, Islantilla offers sailing, canoeing, surfing, a dive school and even crewed boat rentals for fishing enthusiasts. At night-time, again, the big hotels offer the usual kind of entertainment fare.
Excursions around Costa De La Luz
Guadiana River Cruise Sail up the Guadiana River, the natural frontier between Portugal and Spain, taking in the fantastic scenery of this unspoilt coastline.
Seville This is a bustling city with a rich history that saw occupation by the Moors until the 13th century. Amazingly much Moorish architecture is still evident, most notably the exquisite Giralda Tower. When the Spanish won back Seville, they demolished much that the Moors had built, but the 12th century Giralda Tower was deemed too beautiful a construction to destroy.
It’s now part of the even more imposing Gothic Cathedral, built in 1401 on the site of the old mosque, and undoubtedly the focal point of the entire city. Another place of interest is the Alcazar (fortress) – built in the Moorish style, it’s an exquisite piece of architecture set in beautiful gardens that’s well worth a visit for its marvellous state rooms, and it’s easy to see why the king and queen of Spain use it as their official royal residence when in the area.
Nature Reserves Isla Cristina was once an island but now connected to the mainland, which is largely a marshland that is a haven for wildlife and birds. Other protected reserves can be found at El Rompido, Punta Umbria and Donana National Park.
Huelva Though a city of commerce and industry now, Huelva is an important city in historical terms, and boasts some stunning architecture and cathedrals. This is actually the birthplace of a certain explorer called Christopher Columbus, so look out for his home, commemorative monument, and you may even be able to find one or two Columbus-related souvenirs.
Nightlife in Costa De La Luz
Visitors on all inclusive holidays to Costa De La Luz are attracted to the sheer beauty of the countryside, the excellent golden sandy beaches, and a taste of traditional Spanish life.
Although the region has made some low-key tourist developments in recent years, in order to preserve something of authentic Spain, such developments haven’t extended a welcome to the loud bars scene or the club culture.
With this in mind, it’s clear that people shouldn’t come on holidays to the Costa de la Luz expecting a lively nightlife scene, because there isn’t one! Instead, check out the many excellent local restaurants and low-key tapas bars. You’ll be sharing them with the locals, so you can be sure that this kind of nightlife is the real Spain!
Isla Canela As well as all the usual local options, you’ll occasionally find a local bar with some live music. Other than that, the major hotels usually provide regular evening entertainment.
Islantilla For anything other than a quiet night in a local bar, head for the large hotels – they usually have scheduled entertainment every night.
